Tips and preparation
Organisation:
- Please arrive early at the meeting point shown on your lesson map.
- Always bring your course card with you, including for private lessons (compulsory).
- Ski passes are not included in the lesson price. They may be available as an option for certain levels. You need to get insured.
- esf does not provide personal accident insurance. Please make sure you have appropriate cover. Alternatively, we recommend carré neige.
- Warm up properly, pace yourself, eat well and stay hydrated to make the most of your time on the slopes!
On the slopes:
- A piste map is essential for finding your way around the ski area safely. Pick one up when you arrive and keep it with you.
- Every morning, check the weather forecast, piste and lift conditions, and the latest snow conditions. If in doubt, ask an instructor, mountain guide or member of the ski patrol.
Equipment and safety:
- Equipment is not provided. Hire equipment suited to your ability, height and weight, and ask a specialist ski shop for advice. Equipment that complies with the NF X50-007 standard ensures the correct fit and appropriate binding adjustment.
- Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended, especially for children. Choose a helmet that complies with the NF EN 1077 standard.
- Protect yourself from the cold and UV rays: wear gloves, suitable goggles (UV category 4) and warm clothing, and apply sun cream even on cloudy days.
Off-piste:
- Off-piste skiing is suitable for experienced skiers who are properly equipped and familiar with mountain conditions.
- Skiing beyond the marked pistes is at your own risk. Hazards such as cliffs, crevasses, steep slopes and avalanches are not signposted.
- Never rely on existing tracks: they may have been made by other skiers or piste-grooming machinery.
- Before heading off-piste, check the snow conditions and avalanche risk, pay attention to avalanche warning flags and signs around the resort, and seek advice from the ski patrol, mountain guides or ski instructors.
- Check the Météo-France avalanche bulletin( 0 892 68 10 20* – 3615 METEO) or the one displayed at the resort.

Good to know:
- Children attending lessons at Club Piou Piou do not need a ski pass.
- Children under 5 are entitled to a free ski pass, available from the ski lift ticket offices on presentation of proof of age.

SPECIAL 3-DAY OURSON PROGRESSION PASS
For the first few days, your child will not need a ski pass. Please wait until the instructor advises you to purchase one from the esf ticket office.

Public rates: Choose your ski pass!
For all other levels, ski passes must be purchased directly from the ski lift ticket offices. You can also order your pass online once you have completed your lesson booking – a great way to avoid queues when you arrive!
Two options are available :
- Saint-François-Longchamp ski pass, giving you access to the local ski area.
- Grand Domaine ski pass, which also gives you access to the slopes of Valmorel.
